I work directly with approx. 50 livestock producers, only 2 admit to using Facebook or Twitter.

I'm from SW Ontario and the County has just about completed a 3 month Social Media Boot Camp. http://bit.ly/6gTeYL
I know more and more Ag people starting to use Facebook and Twitter to help market their product.

I just read an article that says there are 53 million tweets a day. We are behind in joining the conversation.

I struggle that many farmers do not use the Internet regularly. Is it the same in Canada?

I run Agville's twitter account @agville and, I know I've told you this Jane, I'm very impressed with how the ag community run their twitter accounts. From what I've seen, they are more organized than any other "group" that I'm familiar with. They use hash tags religiously which makes it very easy to follow particular issues or wide ranging categories such as #dairy, #beef, #crops. I also run several other accounts on twitter including my own and combining them all see about 125,000 followers. @agville followers consistently retweet the most and with quality. Not just random retweets for retweets sake... they are sincere and they comment. It doesn't seem that bleak to me.
